Today’s world is so rights-conscious that they don’t let go of anything – not even for the sake of Christ! At times when we are provoked, we feel we have a “right” to be angry and offended to the point of misbehaving and bringing our Christian position to question and disrepute rather than making some efforts to let go, suffering some injustice for the sake of our testimony.
“The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.“
– 1 Corinthians 6:7-8 (NIV)
The ‘right’ to be angry and offended is one ‘right’ I never want anybody to prescribe for me. I don’t want any ‘right’ to be angry. I want the godly right to choose to love and forgive. This is my Christian heritage and walk. I want for someone to tell me “I know what they did or said to you or about you was wrong. I can imagine how you must be feeling, but just try and let go and leave it to God”. This will help me quieten down and restrain myself. It is called SELF-CONTROL – one of the fruit of the spirit!
God bless you,
